Happy New Year everyone.  I hope you enjoyed yourselves in a happy & safe manner and are now lounging at home or doing whatever suits you.  We spent New Year’s Eve eating out, which has become our traditional way to celebrate the closing of one calendar year and the progression to the next.  See, I’m not much of a fancy party person.  Also, I believe every day is the start of the new year, and just because we get to struggle over how to properly write the date over the next few weeks, last night was really no different than any other night.  But, if we can use it as an excuse to try out a new dinner place, then that’s ok too.  We went to True Bistro, a vegan restaurant in Teele Square, Somerville, just a mile up the road.  And of course we biked.  But it was freezing.

The food was amazing.  We both started with the wild mushroom phyllo purse atop a bed of truffled white bean puree (above left).  So good.  Then for the salad course I had a Boston lettuce and seckle pear offering while Damon tried the radicchio and fennel.  For entrees, I had the oyster mushroom with black mole sauce (above right) while Damon had a root veggie stew.  We finished off with chocolate beignets, hot cocoa and almond-coconut panna cotta.

And we had a New Year surprise of Heady Topper.  Which, for the uninitiated is the best beer in the world.  As I’m struggling through my third cough-rattled cold of the winter, we were in bed early and today I’m going to lounge around and try to fend off the germies.  Which is really technical speak coming from an Immunologist.
